Litters and the Litter Pass

Since 25 September 2026 a litter record costs nothing. Register the litter, add every puppy or kitten, weigh them, chart their growth, keep photos and the pedigree, register microchips and transfer them to their new families — free for every profile, breeder, kennel, cattery, rescue or family alike. There is no yearly litter count any more, only a fair-use limit that rises once your profile is verified and as it gets older.

What you pay for is selling a litter. A Litter Pass is bought once, for one litter, and lasts that litter’s life. It unlocks, for that litter only:

  • a reservation queue with pick order, offer windows and next-in-line;
  • protected deposits on that litter, even if your listings cannot take deposits yet;
  • a contract per reservation;
  • sharing the whole litter with one link or with members, with no ads on the page;
  • full Audience Insights detail for that litter.

A pass is US$29 (the same in every country). Pro for kennels and catteries includes six a year; no other plan includes passes. Anyone who breeds a litter registers it free and buys a pass when it has buyers.

Dashboard → Pets → Litters. Every profile has it in the Pets menu: My Litters, Add a Litter, Bred Animals and My Breeds. Before 9 October 2026 this was a separate Breeding section that only breeders and kennels saw.

Litters works for profiles that offer Breeding. The first time you open it without that, an Add Breeding to your profile window opens over the page:

  1. Choose the animals you breed, one or more species.
  2. Select Add Breeding.

On a personal profile this adds Breeding to your services and Breeder to your professions, one for each species. On a business it adds Breeding to the business’s services; its business type stays as it is. The page you opened then loads on its own, so you carry on where you were. If you’ve already listed as many breeds as your profile allows, Breeding is still added and the message tells you to add Breeder on your Professions page.

Not now closes the window and leaves a greyed preview with an Add Breeding button, for when you’re ready. A place profile can’t offer Breeding: switch to your personal or business profile to register litters. You can remove Breeding later on your Services page.

Dashboard → Pets → Litters → Add a Litter. The wizard is unchanged: the dam, the sire or sires, the date, the species and breed, the pups. Nothing is drawn from any balance and nothing is for sale here.

To keep spam off the site there is a limit on how many litters a profile can register in 24 hours and how many open litters (expected or born) it can have at once. It depends on your profile type, whether it is verified and how old it is: a new, unverified personal profile can register 1 litter a day and have 1 open, a verified business or organization 10 a day with no limit on open litters. When you reach it, the wizard shows You’ve reached your open litter limit or You’ve registered as many litters as you can today, says when you can try again and what raises the limit, and keeps everything you filled in. Mark an open litter as weaned or closed to make room; cancelling a litter you registered by mistake frees its place at once. See Limits on listings, breeds, litters and posts.

A reminder a week before the litter is due

Section titled “A reminder a week before the litter is due”

When you register an expected litter and record its mating (the wizard’s Matings step, or Add mating on the litter), we work out when it is due: the first mating day plus the usual pregnancy length for the species, for example about 63 days for a dog, 65 for a cat or 340 for a horse. About a week before that day you get a reminder by e-mail and in your Dashboard notifications (and on Telegram, if you linked it): which litter, the expected date, what the date is based on, and a short get-ready checklist, with a link straight to the litter.

  • It is sent once per litter. If you later record a mating that moves the date later, you are reminded again for the new date.
  • Nothing is sent once the litter is marked born, or if it is cancelled.
  • No mating recorded, no reminder: the date is always worked out from a mating, never guessed.
  • Birds, reptiles and fish are not reminded this way. Their numbers count from the day the eggs are laid, not from mating, so a date worked out from the mating would be wrong.
  • Every mother is different: a birth a few days either side of the date is normal. If anything worries you, call your veterinarian.

To confirm she is pregnant, record her pregnancy exams (an ultrasound, an X-ray count, a palpation or a relaxin test) with Record pregnancy exam on the litter. Each exam goes into her medical history; the litter shows Pregnancy confirmed or Possible no litter, and its expected count follows the latest exam with a count. A negative exam never closes the litter for you. See Pregnancy exams.

Above the litters list a Litter Passes card shows N of M left: the passes you bought and, on Pro, this year’s included ones, on one balance. When Pro’s passes are part of it, the card also shows the date they renew. Bought passes sit on top and never expire; Pro’s come back on the date shown. Buy a Litter Pass · $29 opens the purchase in place.

A pass is spent when you put it on a litter, not when you buy it.

Open the litter. Near the top of its page is the Litter Pass panel:

  • Use 1 of N passes (or Use your last pass) when your balance has one: the pass goes on the litter straight away, and the panel switches to Litter Pass active since {date}.
  • Get a Litter Pass · $29 when it does not: the purchase opens in place; once it settles, the same button applies it.

If two people share your profile and the balance emptied between the card and the click, the button turns into the purchase rather than failing.

Put it on the wrong litter? For 24 hours after applying a pass the panel shows Undo until {date} and the pass returns to your balance. Choose Undo and the pass is back on your balance to use on another litter. After 24 hours the pass stays with the litter for good — This pass can no longer be undone.

Cancelling a litter inside that window undoes its pass too. Cancelling later retires the record but the pass stays spent. And the undo looks only at the pass: it does not check whether you have already taken a reservation or a deposit on the strength of it, so undo first, sell after.

The reservation queue lives on the litter’s listing (Animal listings). When you create a listing from a litter, the waitlist is switched on only if the litter has a pass; without one the listing publishes as contact-only — families write to you and you arrange the rest yourselves. Joining the waitlist, offering a pick and accepting one all need the pass; a visitor on a listing without one sees the waitlist as closed.

Two things a pass does to the listing’s allowances:

  • the litter listing does not count against your litter-listing slots;
  • protected deposits are available on the listing even when your listing allowance includes no deposits. The Reserve checklist (a born, chipped litter, a price, a deposit within the cap, payouts active) still applies. See Protected deposits.

A deposit itself is never behind the pass on a listing that already takes them: if your listings already take deposits, they work as before.

Sharing one pup with a buyer or a family member is free, ads included. Sharing the whole litter with one link — every pup, the growth chart with a line per pup, the parents — needs the pass, and the page the viewer sees carries no ads. See Sharing a pet or a litter.

A contract per reservation is part of the pass, but the contracts themselves are counted separately, once, wherever you create them (Dashboard → Contracts). Each contract you create uses one contract credit. Editing, sending and signing a contract use nothing; only creating one does.

You buy contract credits in packs:

PackContractsThe credits last
Small1024 months from the day you buy it
Medium2024 months from the day you buy it
Large5024 months from the day you buy it

The bigger packs cost less per contract. The price of each pack is shown in the purchase window and on the public pricing page. Packs stack: buy another before the first runs out and the credits add up. The credits that expire soonest are used first, and credits not used within 24 months lapse. No plan includes contracts.

When you have none left, creating a contract shows You have no contracts left. Contracts are sold in credit packs, one credit per contract. Buy contracts, on the litter’s Litter Pass panel or in that message, opens the purchase window on the contract packs. Contracts you already created are never affected.

A Kennel & cattery profile stays on the free-software model: no subscription, a small fee per booking, and a Litter Pass per litter it sells — the US$29 kennel litter of before is the pass. Pro includes six passes a year. If you leave the kennel model for the breeder model, Pro’s included passes lapse with the plan, but passes you bought stay yours — they are the same pass a breeder uses. See Breeder or kennel?.

  • Litters registered before 25 September 2026 keep whatever they had. A kennel litter paid for under the old per-litter model still hands that payment back if it is cancelled within its 24-hour window; it does not hold a pass unless you put one on it.
  • A pass is per litter, for its life. It never renews, is never counted twice and cannot move to another litter after the 24-hour window.
  • The API answer an app sees when you have no pass left is Litter Pass required (402) with the purchase to make; the same when you have no contract credits left, with the contract packs as the purchase.
