Using a promo code

A promo code takes money off your order. Codes come from two places:

  • Seller promotions — a seller, groomer, shelter or club on United Pet Club gives you a code for its own items or services.
  • United Pet Club promotions — codes from United Pet Club itself.

You enter both kinds in the same place, and you can use one of each.

A seller or United Pet Club may share a promotion as a link instead of a code: a United Pet Club address ending in ?promo=CODE, a short upc.pet/s/… link, or a QR code that opens one of them. When you open it:

  • United Pet Club remembers the code for 30 days on that browser. You don’t need to write it down.
  • At store checkout, the Promo code box applies it for you as soon as it appears. You see it under the box with its saving, as if you had typed it.
  • When you book a service, the booking’s promo-code field is filled in with it.
  • If you sign up while it is remembered, it stays remembered for your first order.

If the code doesn’t fit your order (for example, none of that seller’s items are in your cart), the box tells you why and keeps the code for a later order. Once a code is used on a paid order or booking, it is forgotten. You can still type any code yourself.

  1. Add what you want to your cart on the United Pet Club store and go to checkout.
  2. Choose your address and Show delivery options. The Promo code box then appears in the order summary.
  3. Type the code (capitals or not, it doesn’t matter) and choose Apply.
  4. The code appears under the box with its saving, and your total goes down. A seller’s code is marked Seller promotion with the seller’s name; a United Pet Club code United Pet Club promotion. The summary lists each code on its own line, and each seller’s items show only that seller’s saving.

To take a code off, use the remove button next to it. The cart page itself has no promo-code box: codes go in at checkout.

Some promotions need no code at all. When your cart has items they cover, the order summary shows an Automatic discount line with its saving, and the total is already lower. You can’t remove it, and it counts like any other code from that seller: if you also type a code from the same seller, the code may replace the automatic discount. A United Pet Club automatic discount applies to every store cart while it runs.

When you book a service or a class from a provider that gave you a code, enter it when you book. The discount lowers the booking’s price, so the deposit and what is left to pay are lower too. Only the provider’s own codes work on bookings; United Pet Club codes apply to store orders only. If you cancel a booking before paying, the code is freed and you can use it again.

The discount is part of the price you pay: taxes are worked out on the lower amount, and if you return an item later you get back what you actually paid for it.

When you upgrade to a paid plan or buy an add-on in your Dashboard, choose Have a promo code? in the upgrade window and type the code under Promo code. The discount comes off your first payment only: renewals are at the regular price. If the code is refused, the window says This promo code can’t be used here. and you can pay without it. A code isn’t offered when you switch between two paid plans. If the code covers the whole add-on, it is added right away without a card payment.

  • One code per seller. If you enter a second code from the same seller, it replaces the first.
  • One United Pet Club code.
  • Seller codes first. Each seller’s code applies to that seller’s items. A United Pet Club code then applies to what is left.
  • Some promotions don’t combine with another code on the same item. If so, the second code is refused.
  • At most five codes per order.

If you change your cart (add or remove items, change a quantity), your codes are checked again. A code that no longer fits, for example because the seller’s items left your cart, drops off.

When a referral rewards you, for example because a friend you invited joined, you may get a reward code:

  • it works once, and only for you (the profile it was given to). Someone else entering it is refused;
  • it may have an end date;
  • a reward from a seller’s referral program works only on that seller’s items, like any of its codes.

You use it like any other code, in the Promo code box at checkout.

Your reward codes are listed in your Dashboard under Store → My reward codes, each marked Ready to use, Used or Expired, with Copy code and Use it in the store (which opens the store with the code already applied). You also get a notification in the bell when a new reward code is issued. See Refer a friend.

The box tells you why. The usual reasons:

What you see meansWhat to do
The code doesn’t existcheck the spelling
It has expired, or the promotion isn’t running right nownothing to do: it can’t be used today
This promotion hasn’t started yetit’s scheduled: try again from its start date
This promotion has endednothing to do: it’s over
It isn’t available where your order is goingthe promotion is for some countries, provinces or states only; it follows your shipping address (or, for a booking, where the service happens)
Add a delivery address to use this codethe promotion is for some places only: add your shipping address, or an address on your profile, then apply the code again
It has been used as many times as it allows—
Your account can’t use itthe promotion is for other customers (for example, other countries)
It only applies to that seller’s own items, and none are in your orderadd that seller’s items, or use the code on another order
Your order doesn’t reach its minimum yetadd more from that seller
It’s for a different currency than your order—
It can’t be combined with another code on this orderremove the other code if you prefer this one
Another code from the same seller replaced iteach seller allows one code per order

If the box says promo codes can’t be checked right now, your order hasn’t changed: wait a moment and choose Try again.

A code is counted as used only when you pay. If you don’t complete the order, it hasn’t been used up.
