Saved cards
When you pay for something on United Pet Club — a store order, a booking, a donation, a gift, a plan or membership dues — you can keep the card for next time. Next time, your saved cards are listed at checkout with your preferred card already selected, so paying is one click. You manage the list (which card is preferred, which cards to remove) whenever you like.
- At checkout: the payment step of every purchase you make while signed in.
- To manage your cards: Finances → Billing (
/dashboard/finances/billing) in the Dashboard, the Saved cards card under Card on file. The same card appears under Account → Billing → Funding sources.
The cards belong to the account that owns the profile you are acting as: the same account your purchases are billed to. If you work for a business and act as its profile, you see and use the business’s saved cards, not your personal ones.
Saving a card while you pay
Section titled “Saving a card while you pay”When you pay with a new card, two boxes sit under the card form:
| Box | Ticked at first? | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Save this card for future checkouts | Yes | Keeps the card so it is offered the next time you pay. Untick it and the card is used for this payment only. |
| Make this my preferred payment method | No | Makes this card the one selected first at checkout. It also becomes your card on file, the card platform fees are charged to when they can’t come out of a payout. |
If you don’t have a preferred card yet, the second box is not shown: the first card you save becomes your preferred card on its own, and the payment step says so.
Some purchases need to keep the card, because they charge it again later: a plan or membership that renews, a monthly gift, paying your platform fees. Those show only the preferred box and the line “This purchase keeps your card for its later payments, and it is saved with your cards.”
The card is saved once the payment goes through. If it can’t be saved for some reason, you see “We couldn’t save this card, but your payment is going ahead.” and the payment continues as normal.
Saving the same card again doesn’t add a second copy: the new one replaces the old one, and keeps its place as preferred if it was.
Paying with a saved card
Section titled “Paying with a saved card”If you have saved cards, the payment step starts with Pay with: your usable cards, each with its expiry, the preferred one marked Preferred and already selected, then Use a new card.
- Keep the preferred card selected, or pick another saved card.
- Optional: when you pick a card that isn’t your preferred one, tick Make this my preferred payment method to make it preferred from now on.
- Choose Pay. Your bank may ask you to confirm it’s you, as with any card payment.
Expired or declined cards are not offered at checkout. If the card you picked can no longer be used, you see “We couldn’t use that card. Pick another card or use a new one.” and nothing is charged.
Managing your saved cards
Section titled “Managing your saved cards”The Saved cards card lists every card you kept, your preferred card first, then the most recently used. Each row shows the card and its expiry, with a badge when it is Expired, Declined or Expires soon.
- Make preferred makes that card the one checkout selects first and the one platform fees are charged to. Your previous preferred card stays saved. Only a card that can still pay (not expired, not declined) can be made preferred.
- Remove asks first, then takes the card off the list; it is no longer offered at checkout.
- Removing your preferred card makes your most recently used other card preferred.
- If it is your only usable card and fees are owing, it can’t be removed until the fees are paid (use Pay now on the Platform fees card).
- A card that pays for one of your plans can’t be removed here. Change the plan’s card first, under Plan payments on the same page (see Paying for your plan).
- Add a card saves a card without buying anything. Your bank may ask you to confirm it’s you; nothing is charged. The card joins your saved cards (and becomes preferred if you had none); use Make preferred afterwards if you want it to be.
Your saved cards and your plans
Section titled “Your saved cards and your plans”Saving a card doesn’t put it on a plan, and making a card preferred doesn’t change which card pays your plans. A plan is paid only by the cards on that plan. To use a saved card for a plan, add it under Plan payments (Use my card on file uses your preferred card). See Paying for your plan.
Is it safe?
Section titled “Is it safe?”Card numbers are kept by our payment processor (Stripe), never by United Pet Club. We store only the card brand, the last four digits and the expiry date, so you can tell your cards apart. A saved card is only ever charged when you choose it at checkout, for the plans you put it on, or (your preferred card) for platform fees that can’t come out of a payout.
Frequently asked
Section titled “Frequently asked”I paid as a guest. Can I save the card? No. Saving cards needs an account; guest checkouts never keep a card.
Why don’t I see a card I saved for another business? Cards belong to the account that owns the profile you are acting as. Switch to that business’s profile to see its cards.
Does making a card preferred charge it? No. It only changes which card is selected first and which card platform fees go to.
