Product brand
Every new product you add names its brand: the company whose name is on the item. The brand is not you (unless you are the brand), and it is not the seller. If you resell a KONG toy, the brand is KONG and the seller is you.
Pick one of two things:
- A brand. Search for it by name or @handle and choose it from the list. Brands are profiles of their own on the platform, so the product page can link to the brand and the brand’s page can list its products.
- Unbranded / generic. Tick this when the item has no brand at all, such as a plain unlabelled lead or a generic bowl.
You have to choose one before the product can be created. Services, plans, memberships and digital items don’t have a brand, so they never ask.
Choosing it when you add a product
Section titled “Choosing it when you add a product”Commerce → Products → Add Product. The first step (Basics) shows Brand under the item type when the type is Product:
- Type a few letters of the brand’s name (or its @handle) and pick it from the suggestions. The button beside the box opens a larger search.
- Or tick Unbranded / generic. Ticking it clears a brand you picked, and picking a brand clears the tick.
- Continue won’t move on until one of the two is set. The Review step shows the brand you chose.
The brand isn’t in the list
Section titled “The brand isn’t in the list”You can only choose a brand that already exists. New brands are added by the United Pet Club team, so a seller cannot invent one. If the brand you sell is missing, contact support with the brand’s name and website. In the meantime you can tick Unbranded / generic and add the brand later (see below).
What shoppers see
Section titled “What shoppers see”On the store’s product page, next to Sold by, the line Brand: name links to the brand’s profile. The brand’s own page has a Store tab that lists its products from every seller. An unbranded product shows no brand line.
Changing the brand later
Section titled “Changing the brand later”Open Commerce → Products → your product. A Brand card above the tabs shows the current brand (or “Unbranded / generic”). Select Change, pick another brand or tick the box, and select Save brand. You can do this at any time, whatever the product’s status. Changing the brand doesn’t touch the product’s other details.
”This product needs a brand”
Section titled “”This product needs a brand””Products added before brands were required have neither a brand nor the unbranded tick. Their page shows an amber This product needs a brand card with the same picker. Choose the brand (or tick Unbranded / generic) and select Save brand.
Until you do, nothing is blocked: the product stays on sale and every other tab works as before.
If it goes wrong
Section titled “If it goes wrong”| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Choose a brand | You tried to add a product without a brand or the unbranded tick. | Pick a brand, or tick Unbranded / generic. |
| That is not a brand | The profile you chose is not (or is no longer) a brand. | Choose another brand, or tick Unbranded / generic. |
| This brand belongs to another company | The brand’s company is on United Pet Club and is the only one that can list new products under it. | Choose your own brand, or tick Unbranded / generic. If the brand is yours, switch to the company profile that owns it and add the product from there. |
