The "I own this" upload checkbox
Every time you upload a photo, video or file to United Pet Club, you’re asked to tick I own this or have permission to use it. Ticking it confirms that you created the file, or that its owner allows you to use it here. You can’t upload until it is ticked.
What you see
Section titled “What you see”Above or next to the upload button, a box with:
- the checkbox I own this or have permission to use it;
- a line under it: “Upload only files you created or have the right to share. A rights holder can report a file, and we take it down.”
- a Copyright policy link, which opens our policy on the website in a new tab.
If you try to upload without ticking it, the box turns red and says Tick “I own this or have permission to use it” to upload this file. Nothing is uploaded until you tick it.
Where you’ll see it
Section titled “Where you’ll see it”| Where | When it asks |
|---|---|
| Dashboard Media (Tools → Media → My Media) | Upload: asked for each file, and Upload stays off until it is ticked. Replace file in Edit file: asked before the new file goes up. See Media library. |
| Choosing an image anywhere in the Dashboard | The Upload tab of the image picker asks once each time you open it. Until you tick it, you can’t choose or drop a file. |
| Store item photos | Before you add or replace a photo. |
| Portfolio work samples | Once in the photos step, for all your sets. |
| Pet food label photos, tax exemption certificate, transfer deposit receipt | Before the file goes up. |
| On the website: a booking photo, a file in a form | Before the photo or file is sent. |
| In your Account: a deposit receipt photo | Before the photo goes up. |
| Android app: pet photos, pet food label photos, medical records, pregnancy exam files | Before anything is sent. For pet photos, before the camera or photo picker opens. |
What it means
Section titled “What it means”By ticking the box, you confirm that one of these is true:
- you took the photo, recorded the video or made the file yourself; or
- the person or company who owns it has given you permission to use it on United Pet Club.
A photo you found online, a breeder’s or a vet’s photo, a magazine scan or a brand’s logo usually belongs to someone else. Ask them first, or don’t upload it.
Our team keeps a record that you ticked the box, with the time.
If you upload something you don’t have the rights to
Section titled “If you upload something you don’t have the rights to”The owner of the work can send us a copyright notice. When they do:
- the file, and anything that shows it, is taken down: hidden from everyone but you;
- we e-mail you, and the notice appears under Settings → Copyright notices in your Dashboard;
- if our team confirms it, the profile gets a strike. Three active strikes can lead to the profile being suspended.
See Copyright notices about your content for what you can do, including sending a counter-notice if the file really is yours.
