Personalized products
Some products are made to order from details you supply: a pet passport with your pet’s pages printed in, an engraved tag, a photo on a title page. On United Pet Club those details are collected after checkout, one form per item, so the product page and the cart stay simple and you can fill in eight passports at your own pace.
Buyers: choosing personalization
Section titled “Buyers: choosing personalization”On a product page, personalization options sit under the price, above Add to Cart. Each option shows its price; an option marked Details collected after checkout is one you will fill in later. Tick as many as you want — for a pet passport the three pages (title page photo, pet profile pages, pet professional pages) can be combined freely.
Prices are per book. On a pack every book gets its own page, so the option line shows
the pack total with the per-book rate beside it, for example +US$80.00 (8 × US$10.00) on an
8-pack. Packs get a lower per-book rate than a single book.
When a seller offers a bundle price for a set of options, the store applies it automatically the moment you have ticked every option in the set — the line reads bundle price applied and shows what you save.
Below the buy box a note tells you how many items you will be filling in after checkout.
Buyers: filling in the details
Section titled “Buyers: filling in the details”After you pay, the order confirmation offers Personalize now. You can also come back
later from the order (Orders → your order → Personalize your items) or through the link
/orders/{order id}/personalize.
The page lists every item that needs details, grouped by product and option — Pet profile pages, 1 of 8, 2 of 8, and so on — with a progress bar. Items are filled in one at a time:
- Pick one of your pets (optional). The form opens with everything your pet’s profile already knows — call name, registered name, species, breed, date of birth, sex, microchip number, tattoo, United Pet Club code and the profile photo. You can change any of it.
- Check and complete the remaining fields. Only the details you provide are printed; almost every field is optional.
- Submit. The details are saved and locked: the page shows Details saved and locked and moves you to the next item.
Your answers save as you type, so you can close the page and pick up where you left off.
Buyers: changing a locked item
Section titled “Buyers: changing a locked item”Once submitted, an item’s details cannot be edited — what you approved is exactly what gets made, which protects both you and the seller if there is ever a dispute. To change something:
- Open the item on the personalize page. Its frozen answers are shown, with a record fingerprint underneath.
- Choose Ask the seller for a change, say what needs to change and why, and Send request.
- The seller approves or declines. If approved, the item reopens for one new submission — fill it in again and submit. The previous version stays on record. If declined, the seller’s note is shown and the item stays as it was.
Only one change request can be open on an item at a time.
Sellers: offering personalization
Section titled “Sellers: offering personalization”Personalization is built from your option library: Dashboard → Products → Product
Options (/dashboard/commerce/products/options).
- New option group. Give it a code (
PASSPORT_PAGES), the label buyers see, optional help text, and how buyers choose: Pick one, optional, Pick one, required, or Pick any number (needed for stackable options and bundle prices). A group may also ask for a typed answer in the buy box (a name to engrave) — leave that at No typed answer when a form collects the details instead. - Add a choice for each option:
- Price item — pick one of your catalog items; its offer and price list are what the buyer is charged. Quantity tiers on that item give you the pack rate (for example US$20 for 1–7, US$10 from 8). A choice with no price item is free.
- Charge per unit of the parent line — tick this for anything printed into every book of a pack.
- Details collected after checkout — choose a form: a platform template (Pet passport – pet details, title page photo, pet professional pages) or one of your own published forms of the Product personalization kind, built under Forms. The buyer fills it once per unit after paying.
- Combo prices (groups set to Pick any number): pick two or more choices and the item that carries the combined price. The store applies the biggest matching combo automatically.
- Attach to a product. Pick each product that should offer the group; the same group can hang on any number of products.
Retiring a choice or a combo hides it from buyers without touching orders that already used it.
Sellers: fulfilling a personalized order
Section titled “Sellers: fulfilling a personalized order”Open the sale (Dashboard → Sales → the order). The Personalization panel lists every unit with its status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| To do / Started | The buyer has not submitted this unit yet. |
| Locked | Submitted; the frozen answers are on the order. View answers shows them, with photo links and the record fingerprint. |
| Change requested | The buyer asked for a change — Approve (the unit reopens for one new submission) or Decline. |
| Reopened | Approved; waiting for the buyer’s new submission. |
| Skipped | You chose to make it without personalized details. |
Fulfilment of the group waits while any unit is open: the sale says Waiting on the buyer for N of M. You can Skip a single unit, or Skip the rest and fulfil to waive every open unit and request fulfilment immediately (the reason you enter is shown to the buyer). Once every unit is locked or skipped the fulfilment request goes out on its own.
