Breeder or kennel? Which model you are on

United Pet Club charges a breeding business for what it does, not for how big it is or how it is registered. Since 9 October 2026 the model follows who breeds:

  • A person who breeds offers Breeding under My Profile → Services. That personal profile is on the Breeder model.
  • A business that breeds is a Kennel or cattery: that is its business type, under My Business → Business type, and it offers Breeding (and any other service) under My Business → Services.

Being a Breeder by profession is something else: it is your career, shown on your profile and your career portfolio (see Your professions). A kennel manager can be a Breeder by profession without breeding on their own, and their personal profile does not open the breeding tools. Offering the Breeding service does. See Services you offer.

On both models, since 25 September 2026, registering a litter is free (with a limit per day and on open litters that only stops abuse, see Limits on listings, breeds, litters and posts), and a litter you sell takes a Litter Pass — US$29 once per litter, or one of the passes your plan includes — for its reservation queue, protected deposits, contracts, whole-litter sharing and audience detail. See Litters and the Litter Pass. Your litters and breeds live under Pets → Litters.

You breed and sell animals from your personal profile and you do not take bookings. You need no plan: your litter records are free, each litter you sell takes a Litter Pass, and contracts are bought as credits in packs (see Litters and the Litter Pass). There is no fee per booking, because there is nothing to book.

Until 12 October 2026 breeders were on a yearly Breeder Pro plan (2, 6, 15 or 50 Litter Passes a year, with contracts); before 25 September 2026 it was called Pet Pro. Breeder Pro was retired on 12 October 2026: its subscriptions ended and the unused time came back as credit (Billing & plans).

Your business breeds, and often also boards, runs daycare, trains, grooms, offers stud service, handles at shows or transports: each of those is a service you add under My Business → Services. Bookings put you on the same model as every service business on the platform:

  • the software is free — no subscription, unlimited staff, locations and vehicles;
  • a Commission of 1.25% per service booking, minimum $0.50, once per booking on the total, plus the Platform Processing Fee on card payments and the Stripe Payout Fees on each payout (see Fees). A class (more than one client per session) pays 7% in person or 17% online instead;
  • a Litter Pass per litter you sell — US$29, covering the litter listing, the reservation queue, deposits, contracts and sharing for that litter. The Pro plan includes six passes a year. Registering the litter itself, and every animal in it, is free.

Kennel & cattery is one business type; only a business profile can have it, and a business has one type. Whether your card says Kennel, Cattery or Kennel & cattery follows the breeds you declare on My Breeds: dogs only → kennel, cats only → cattery, both → both. Add or remove a breed and the word follows.

There is no switch button any more: the model follows the profile.

  • From breeding on your personal profile to a kennel. Create a business profile (Account → Profiles → Add a profile → An organization), choose Kennel or cattery as its business type, and offer Breeding and your other services from it. Add your breeds there under Pets → Litters → My Breeds. Your personal profile can stop offering Breeding under My Profile → Services when you no longer breed on it.
  • A business that stops being a kennel. Choose another business type under My Business → Business type. The breeds listed under the kennel type end with it; the services the business offers stay until you remove them.
  • A personal profile cannot be a kennel, and a business cannot be a Breeder: Breeder is a person’s profession.

Every profile that offers Breeding, personal or business, is listed free in the public breeder directory, with an Individual or Business label (and a Businesses only filter for visitors), and the order is decided by quality only. Nothing you pay — no plan, no Partner status, no fee — moves you up. The Your business model card shows your score out of 100 and, for each of the seven signals, how many points you have and what would earn more:

SignalWorthWhat earns it
Verification25identity, business, address and licence verification, a UPC credential
Health tests15health-test results on your animal listings
Contracts15using platform contracts with your buyers; sealed ones count double
Response time15answering inquiries, and answering within a day
Reviews15reviews from buyers and clients, and their rating
Profile completeness10a display name, a short bio, your city, at least one breed
Litter recency5a litter recorded in the last 12 months

The score is recomputed every night; a new listing shows pending until the first run. Paid visibility, if it ever exists, is marked Sponsored and never mixes with this order.
