Storage space

Every file you upload to your Media library — photos, videos, documents, audio — uses some of your profile’s storage space. Since 29 September 2026 that space has a limit: every profile gets 200 MB free, and you can add more with a storage add-on.

  • 200 MB free, for every profile. A new profile gets it the moment it is created, and every profile that already existed on 29 September 2026 received the same 200 MB that day. It is free and does not depend on your plan.
  • Each profile has its own space. If you manage several profiles — your household and your kennel, say — each one has its own 200 MB, and a file uses the space of the profile it was uploaded to.
  • Your plan no longer includes storage. Until 28 September 2026 the membership plans bundled their own amount of storage. They don’t any more: every profile has the same free 200 MB, and extra space is an add-on you choose (see Getting more space).
  • United Pet Club’s own profiles have no limit. The profiles the company runs (United Pet Club, United Pet Technologies, United Pet Commerce and their brands, such as Hatching Experience, ThermaSense and TapSense) have unlimited storage. When you work as one of them, the storage bar next to your uploads shows Unlimited instead of a size.
  • Each file you upload, at the size it is stored.
  • Photos are compressed when they are saved, so a photo usually takes up less space than the file on your phone or computer.
  • Very large photos are made smaller. A photo is kept at most 4000 pixels on its longest side — plenty for any screen and for most prints. A bigger photo, such as one from a recent phone’s main camera, is shrunk to that size as it is saved, so it uses about half the space. Smaller photos are never enlarged.
  • The smaller copies we make don’t count. Thumbnails and the other sizes we create so your photos load quickly on every screen are on us.
  • Files you uploaded before 29 September 2026 count too (since 11 October 2026). Until then the meter left them out and showed “0 MB used”; now it shows everything your profile stores.

A file that doesn’t fit in the space you have left is not uploaded: the upload stops with a message saying you’re out of storage. Nothing is saved, so there is nothing to clean up — and the files you already have are not touched.

This also happens when you have some space left but the file is bigger than that. Free up enough room for the whole file, or get more space, then upload it again.

Delete a file from your Media library (⋯ → Delete) and its space goes back to your profile straight away, ready for your next upload. That includes files you uploaded before the limit started.

An image you share that is approved for the shared media library frees its space too: once it is approved it no longer counts toward your storage.

When you replace a file (⋮ → Edit Details → Replace file), the new file counts toward your storage and the old file’s space comes back:

  • The new file must fit first. It is checked against the space you have left before the old file’s space is returned. To replace a 5 MB photo with a 6 MB one you need 6 MB free, not 1 MB.
  • If it doesn’t fit, nothing changes. You are offered more storage, and your current file stays as it is.
  • Then the old file’s space comes back.

Two storage add-ons sit on top of your free 200 MB:

Add-onPrice
25 GB$8 a month
100 GB$20 a month
  • Prices are in US dollars, in every country, and renew every month.
  • They add up: take both and you have 125 GB on top of your free 200 MB.
  • An add-on belongs to the profile it is bought for.
  • “I’m out of storage, but I have hardly uploaded anything.” Check which profile you are acting as (the profile switcher in the sidebar): each profile has its own space, and the upload uses the space of the profile you are on.
  • “I deleted files but still can’t upload.” The file you are uploading must fit in the space left as a whole.
