Audience Insights
Audience Insights shows you who is looking at the things you own on United Pet Club: your animals, litters and listings, your blog posts and recipes, your UPC.Pet page and your store. Visits are counted on the public website and on upc.pet whether or not the visitor is signed in, and — on the Pro level — you can also count visits on your own website.
Where things live:
- Dashboard → Insights: Overview, Your Pages (a count for everything you own), External Sites (connect your own website), and a page of detail for each thing you own.
- Every item you manage — an animal, a litter, a listing, a recipe, a blog post, your UPC.Pet page, your store — carries a small Insights card with its visit count (or a lock).
- Account → Privacy → Visits: what the owners of pages you visit can see about you, and a way to forget your visits.
Insights follows the profile you are acting as (the switcher at the top of the sidebar): a breeder profile sees visits to the breeder’s animals, an organisation profile sees its own.
What each level shows
Section titled “What each level shows”How much of the picture you see depends on the kind of profile you are acting as, and on Audience Insights Pro. No plan is needed for Free or Basic. The level is shown as a badge on the Overview (Insights Free, Insights Basic, Insights Pro), and every locked panel tells you which level unlocks it.
| Level | Who has it | You see |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Personal profiles | One live number: visits to everything you own in the last 30 days, with how that compares to the previous 30 days, and a teaser such as Visitors from 6 countries, 3 search & AI crawlers, 2 signed-in members — across 4 of your pages. |
| Basic | Every business and organization profile, free | Everything above, plus a visit count per page: one row for each animal, litter, listing, post, recipe, UPC.Pet page and store, with the previous period and the last visit date, and the same per-page totals under Top pages. |
| Pro | Profiles with Audience Insights Pro (sold by the year), and businesses on Pro | Everything above, plus who visited: humans vs search crawlers vs AI agents vs suspected bots, countries and cities, devices, operating systems, browsers and screen sizes, where visitors came from (search, social, an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Perplexity, another site, a campaign), a visit-by-visit log, every crawler by name, visits by the visitor’s local hour, what is happening right now, 400 days of history, and up to 10 of your own external websites. |
The Free number is real and updates as visits happen — it is not a sample. Locked panels only ever show counts (“visitors from 6 countries”), never a partial list.
On a personal profile, a panel that needs Basic says Page counts come free with business and organization profiles. To see page counts for a business, switch to its profile with the switcher at the top of the sidebar.
Getting Audience Insights Pro
Section titled “Getting Audience Insights Pro”Audience Insights Pro is made for business and organization profiles. It is sold by the year only; the price is shown before you pay and on the public pricing page.
- Act as the profile that should have it (the switcher at the top of the sidebar).
- On any panel locked to Pro, select Unlock visitor detail. The upgrade window opens, titled See who visited, with Audience Insights Pro to buy.
- Pay in the same window. Your Overview switches to Insights Pro as soon as the payment is confirmed, usually within a few seconds.
It renews each year on the card you paid with, and you can cancel it under Finances → Billing like any add-on. Businesses on Pro already have it included.
A litter with a Litter Pass gets Pro detail
Section titled “A litter with a Litter Pass gets Pro detail”Since 25 September 2026 a litter that holds a Litter Pass shows the full Pro detail for that litter — its overview, visit log, breakdowns, crawlers and the 13-month history — whatever level your profile is on. Your other pages and the Overview keep your profile’s level, and if you undo the pass within its 24 hours the litter drops back to it. See Litters and the Litter Pass.
The Overview
Section titled “The Overview”Insights → Overview (/dashboard/insights) opens on the last 30 days (on Pro you can widen
the Period; the hint under it says how many days of history your level keeps). On Basic it
shows Your pages (top rows, See all opens the full list) and Top pages. On Pro it adds
tiles for Visits, Visitors, Sessions, Engaged sessions and Avg. measured time,
the Humans vs crawlers vs AI split (bots are counted separately so your human numbers stay
honest), Visits per day, and tables for Countries, Devices, Referrers,
Visitor kinds, Search & AI crawlers and Right now (active visitors and hits in the
last 30 minutes).
On the Overview, the crawler cards count each crawler’s visits over the whole period. Pages fetched, the page list and the exact Last seen time come from your most recent visits only. For a crawler that has not come by lately, Last seen shows the day and the pages stay empty. Open one of your pages to see everything a crawler fetched there.
While the numbers are being fetched the page shows placeholder cards with a small Gathering your insights… card floating over them (the same style as the language-switch notice). The Period picker and the tier badge stay usable during that moment; the card disappears on its own as soon as the figures arrive.
Your Pages (/dashboard/insights/subjects) is the full list with a Kind filter (Animal,
Litter, Listing, Recipe, Blog post, UPC.Pet page, Store, …), Visits, Previous and
Last visit per row, and Open to jump to the item. On Basic each row carries See who
visited this page; on Pro it opens the page’s detail.
Reading a page’s detail (Pro)
Section titled “Reading a page’s detail (Pro)”Opening a page from Your Pages (or from the Insights card on the item itself) shows four tabs:
- Overview — this page’s totals against the previous period, its daily chart, countries, devices, referrers, visitor kinds and crawlers.
- Visit log — one line per visit, newest first. Filter by Visitor kind (All visitors, Visitors, Members, Verified crawlers, Declared bots, Suspected bots).
- Breakdown — pick a Dimension (Country, Region, City, Device, Operating system, Browser, Screen size, Referrer type, Referring site, Campaign, Crawler / agent, Visitor kind, Member kind, Local hour, Language, Locale) to see visits, visitors, share and average time.
- Crawlers & AI — every search engine and AI bot that fetched this page, with the operator, whether it is Verified (its address matched the ranges the operator publishes) or Unverified (it only says who it is), visits, last seen, and the pages fetched.
The visit log, column by column
Section titled “The visit log, column by column”| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| When — Visitor’s time / Your time | The same moment twice: in the visitor’s own time zone and in yours. A visit at 9:10 pm for someone in Tokyo is 8:10 am for you in Toronto — both are shown so “when do people look at my litter” has an honest answer. |
| Page | The page and its language edition. |
| Visitor | Visitor (someone not signed in), Member (see below), or the bot’s name with Verified / Unverified. Returning marks a visitor seen before. |
| Location | Country, region and city, from the visitor’s network — never an exact address. |
| Device / Screen | Phone, tablet or desktop; browser and operating system; screen and window size. |
| Referrer | Where the visitor came from: Direct, a search engine, a social network, an AI assistant, another site, or a campaign. |
| Time on page | Measured in the visitor’s browser when it can be; otherwise estimated from when they opened the next page (Inferred from the next page view — the visitor’s browser did not report it). Crawlers have no time on page. |
| Scroll | How far down the page the visitor got. |
| Entry / Exit | The first and last page of that visitor’s session. |
What “a breeder from Ontario” means
Section titled “What “a breeder from Ontario” means”When a signed-in member visits your page, what you see depends on their choice, not on your plan:
- Member — they chose Hidden: you know a member visited, nothing more.
- Member · Breeder, with a region in Location — they chose Kind and region (the default): you see the kind of profile (a breeder, a groomer, a veterinarian, an organisation…) and where they are, never who.
- A handle and name — they chose Handle and name: you see exactly who visited, the way a professional network shows profile views.
You never see a visitor’s e-mail, address or what they did on other members’ pages.
Your own visits: what page owners see about you
Section titled “Your own visits: what page owners see about you”Account → Privacy → Visits (/account/privacy/visits) — Choose what the owners of the pages
you visit can see about you, review the visits kept on your account and forget them at any
time.
What page owners see offers three choices; the current one is marked Default when it is the platform default:
| Choice | Reveals |
|---|---|
| Hidden | Owners only see that a member visited. No kind, region, name or handle. |
| Kind and region (default) | Owners see your profile kind and region, e.g. “a breeder from Ontario”, never your name. |
| Handle and name | Owners see your handle and display name, so they know exactly who visited. |
Your choice applies to every page you visit from now on. Earlier visits keep the disclosure they were recorded with. Saving shows Visit setting saved.
My activity lists the visits kept on your account — Visits kept, Oldest visit, Most recent visit, and Recent visits with the site, page and the disclosure each was recorded with. If none are kept you see No visits are kept on your account right now.
Forget my visits — Removes you from every visit kept so far. Page owners keep their counts; the visits simply stop pointing at you. Confirm in the dialog; the toast reports how many visits were forgotten. This cannot be undone, and it does not stop future visits from being recorded — change the choice above for that.
Connecting your own website (Pro)
Section titled “Connecting your own website (Pro)”Insights → External Sites (/dashboard/insights/sites) — Count visits on your own website
too — register it, verify you own it and add one script tag. On Pro you can connect up to
10 sites.
-
Register a site — give it a Site name, its Primary host (
www.example.com), any Extra domains (comma-separated; hits from other hosts are ignored) and pick a Verification method: DNS TXT record or Meta tag on the home page. -
Save your collector secret. It is shown once — Copy it into your plugin or server settings now; we keep only a hash and cannot show it again. You get a Site key (
pk_…, safe to put in a web page) and a Secret (sk_…, for a server or the plugin only). If you lose the secret, Rotate secret issues a new one. -
Prove you own the domain. Add the record the site card shows — a
TXTrecord on your domain whose value isupc-audience-verify=<your token>, or<meta name="upc-audience-verification" content="<your token>">in the<head>of your home page — then click Verify. DNS changes can take a while to spread; verify again later if the first attempt fails. Visits are only counted for a verified site. -
Add the script tag to every page of your site, just before
</body>:<script defer src="https://audience.unitedpetclub.com/api/upc.js" data-site="pk_your_site_key"></script>It is tiny, has no dependencies, sets no cookie unless you tell it your visitor has consented (
data-consent="granted"), and never sends form contents. Visits start appearing on the Overview next to your UPC pages within the hour.
To tell Insights which of your animals or litters a page on your site is about, add
<meta name="upc:subject" content="ANIMAL:<the animal's id>"> to that page (the id is in the
animal’s UPC page address); the visit then counts towards that animal as well as towards your
site. It counts only for animals and litters you own: a page naming someone else’s animal still
counts for your site, never for that animal.
Frequently asked
Section titled “Frequently asked”- My animal’s count is lower than my website analytics. Insights counts one visit per page view and puts crawlers, bots and previews in their own buckets; marketing tools usually count everything. Pro shows both sides of that split.
- A crawler I have never heard of shows up. Bots are listed under the name they declare; only those marked Verified were confirmed by address. Unverified names are what the visitor claimed to be.
- I changed to Hidden — why does an owner still see my kind on an old visit? Each visit keeps the choice you had when it happened. Use Forget my visits to remove yourself from the old ones too.
- I transferred an animal. Where did its insights go? To its new owner, history included. Once the transfer is done the animal’s detail page no longer opens for you; it now belongs to the new owner’s Insights.
- Do Dashboard or Account pages count? No — only public pages (the website, upc.pet and your connected sites) are shown to owners.
