Account settings
Account Settings in the sidebar holds the settings that belong to the account as a whole rather than to you personally. If you share the account, these affect everyone on it, and most of them can only be changed by an Owner or Admin.
Account Settings opens a group: Account Type, Regional Defaults, Screen Lock Policy, Members, Invitations, Owned Profiles, Profile Access, Standing, Close Account. Members and invitations have their own page, and Profile Access — giving a member a role on every profile the account owns — is covered under Brands and locations. If you belong to more than one account, a Select account drop-down at the top of each page picks which one you are editing.
Account type and details
Section titled “Account type and details”Account Settings → Account Type (/account/account-settings/kind).
Account kind shows how the account is classified — Personal (Solo), Personal (Family), Business, Nonprofit and so on — with its status and trust level, and how many members and owned profiles it has. The account kind can’t be changed here. Contact support if you need to convert this account.
Account details is editable by Owners and Admins:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Display name | Up to 200 characters. |
| Legal name | The registered legal entity name, for businesses and organisations. |
| Slug | Short web-address name — lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens only; typed characters are converted as you go. Up to 60 characters. |
| Billing email | Where invoices go. |
| Legal contact name / Legal contact email | Who to reach for legal matters. |
Click Save Changes; you will see Account updated.
Regional defaults
Section titled “Regional defaults”Account Settings → Regional Defaults (/account/account-settings/preferences) sets the
starting language, currency and timezone for everyone on the account. Each person can
still override these for themselves under Preferences.
Pick a Default language & region, Default currency and Default timezone (type to search each list; choose No account default to clear the timezone) and click Save Changes. You will see Regional defaults updated.
Screen lock policy
Section titled “Screen lock policy”Account Settings → Screen Lock Policy (/account/account-settings/screen-lock-policy).
Two cards, one Save Changes button, and only an account owner or admin can change
either:
- Automatic lock — the switch Lock the screen after a period of inactivity. Its default depends on the account type: On for business, nonprofit, government and every other organization account; Off for Personal (Solo) and Personal (Family) accounts, which have to turn it on themselves. A Default badge means the account has never chosen; once you save, the badge reads On or Off. Turning it off never removes the manual Lock Now / user-menu Lock action.
- Inactivity timeout — Lock after sets how long the screen can sit idle before it locks for everyone on the account: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes (the default), 15 minutes, 30 minutes or 1 hour. It is greyed out while the automatic lock is off.
Click Save Changes; you will see Screen lock policy updated.
Each person’s own unlock PIN is set separately — see Security.
Owned profiles
Section titled “Owned profiles”Account Settings → Owned Profiles (/account/account-settings/owned-profiles) lists
the profiles this account owns or co-owns — the account’s members all manage them. Each
card shows the profile’s kind (Person, Business or Organization, Place), its
ownership role, and a Manage Profile link.
To add one (Owners and Admins):
- Click Add Profile.
- Under Profile, search by name or @handle and pick the profile. Profiles the account already owns — or has already asked for — are not offered.
- Choose an Ownership role — Owner, Delegated owner (the default) or Viewer — and click Continue.
- Review before anything is sent. Only the accounts that own a profile can see who owns it, so the confirmation step says @handle may belong to another account. If it does, the request goes to that account and an owner or admin of that account must approve it before the profile joins yours; if nobody owns it, it is added as soon as you confirm. Choose what approval means — Transfer ownership (the current owner gives the profile up; the default) or Share ownership (they keep it and your account is added alongside) — add an optional message, and click Send request. You will see either Added @handle to the account or Request sent — waiting for … to approve @handle.
Some profiles can’t be added this way:
- Profiles UPC looks after (reference and directory profiles) and UPC’s own profiles. UPC support handles those.
- A profile that belongs to someone who hasn’t added it to an account yet. Nobody could approve a request for it, so ask its owner to add it to their account first.
In both cases you’ll see Couldn’t send the ownership request. You’ll see the same message if UPC can’t confirm who owns the profile at that moment; trying again a little later usually works.
Nothing changes on the profile until the owner decides. While a request is open it is listed under Pending requests at the top of the page with who it is waiting on; Withdraw (and confirm) cancels it. Requests lapse after 30 days.
Approving a request for a profile you own
Section titled “Approving a request for a profile you own”When another account asks for one of your profiles, Owners and Admins see it under Requests awaiting your approval on the same page — who is asking, for which profile, the role they want, whether it is a Transfer (your account gives it up) or a Share (your account keeps it), and their message.
- Approve opens a confirmation that spells out the consequence — for a transfer, your account stops owning this profile and its members lose the access they had through it — and only Approve transfer / Approve sharing makes the change.
- Decline lets you add an optional reason; the requester sees that you declined and nothing changes.
If the same person administers both accounts (moving a profile between your own accounts), there is nobody else to ask and the request completes immediately.
To remove one, click Remove from account on its card and confirm. This removes the account’s ownership of @handle. The profile itself isn’t deleted, and other accounts keep their access. You can re-add it later.
To create a brand-new profile instead, use Profiles → Add Profile — see Managing profiles.
While the account or the profile has an open issue about spam, abuse, fraud or a review by our team, or is suspended, profiles cannot be moved to another account, and the account cannot create new profiles — see Your standing.
Standing
Section titled “Standing”Account Settings → Standing (/account/account-settings/standing) shows the standing of the account you are in:
anything that needs your attention (a fee, a card, a problem our team found), what it pauses, how to fix it, and an
Appeal button where a decision can be appealed. An account suspension suspends every profile the account owns.
While anything is open, an Action required banner shows at the top of every page. Everything about it is on
Your standing.
Close your account
Section titled “Close your account”Account Settings → Close Account (/account/account-settings/close). Only an
Owner can do this. Closing is not instant: it starts a grace period of one year
(365 days) during which you can change your mind, and members keep access until it
finalizes.
- Pick a Reason — I no longer want this account, No longer needed, Duplicate account, Privacy concerns or Other — and, if you like, tell us more under Anything else? (optional).
- Tick Email me a data export before closing if you want a copy of your data.
- Click Schedule Closure….
- In the confirmation, read the notice — This schedules the account for closure and starts the grace period. Members lose access when it finalizes. You can cancel any time before the grace period ends. — tick I understand and want to schedule closure, and click Schedule Closure.
You will see Closure scheduled. The page now shows a Closure scheduled card with the date you Requested it, the date the Grace ends, and a Before finalizing checklist — Active profiles, Active subscriptions, Outstanding balance, Open disputes — each marked clear or needs attention. Anything needing attention must be sorted out (cancel subscriptions, settle balances) before the closure can complete. An account with an open issue about spam, abuse, fraud or a review, or a suspended account, cannot be closed until it is resolved (see Your standing).
Change your mind
Section titled “Change your mind”While the grace period runs, the Owner sees Cancel Closure on the same page. One click and you will see Closure cancelled — the account carries on as normal.
Get your data
Section titled “Get your data”On the Closure scheduled card, Request Data Export queues a copy of your data; the card then reads Data export requested, and Data export delivered with a date once it has been sent.
Contact details
Section titled “Contact details”Contact → Addresses (/account/contact/addresses) manages the addresses of the
profile you are acting as — the primary physical address is used as your shipping
origin and service area when you sell or offer services. Click Add address, choose a
Kind (Primary location, Shipping, Billing, Mailing, Tax, Registered office,
Warehouse, Other — the kind cannot be changed later), a Visibility (Exact address,
City only, Region only, Country only, Hidden), then use Find address to pick a
suggestion so the location is captured precisely, or type it in by hand. A two-letter
Country code is required. For a Primary location you can also set a Service radius
(km) — how far you travel for local delivery or in-home services. A profile has one
Primary location: if it already has one, adding another is refused with This profile
already has a physical primary address. When you move, edit the existing primary location
(the pencil icon) instead. Removing an address happens immediately, with no confirmation.
Emails
Section titled “Emails”Contact → Emails (/account/contact/emails) lists every email address on your account
(not the profile). The address marked Default is the one you sign in with and where security
messages go; Verified addresses can also sign you in; Pending ones are waiting for their
code. You can keep up to five.
- Add an address: click Add email, type the address (and an optional Label such as Work), then Send code. Enter the 6-digit code from the email in the Enter the code dialog (it expires in 10 minutes; Resend code waits a minute between sends). Until you enter the code the address shows Pending and cannot be used to sign in.
- Change your default: click Make default on a verified address. The old default stays on your account as a secondary address. Changing your default email does not change your username — see Choose your username.
- Remove an address: click the bin icon and confirm. The default address has no bin: make another address the default first. A removed address can be added again later.
If an address is already verified on another account you will see That email is already in use. An address someone else added but never verified is released to you when your code goes through — the code, not who typed it first, decides who owns an address.
Phones
Section titled “Phones”Contact → Phones (/account/contact/phones) works the same way for phone numbers, which are
confirmed by text message. Enter the number in international format — start with + and the
country code, e.g. +1 604 555 1234 — then Send code and type the 6-digit code from the SMS
(it expires in 5 minutes). The first verified number becomes your Primary; Make primary
moves it. Any number can be removed; removing the primary promotes another verified number when
you have one. Phone numbers are used to reach you and to send codes, and every Verified
number can also sign you in: type it with its country code in the Email, phone or username
box on the sign-in page, then use your password or passkey as usual (see
Sign in). A Pending number
cannot sign you in, and neither can one you have removed.
