Posting with a template

A template is a ready-made design for a feed post: a gotcha-day card, a litter announcement, a lost pet alert, a sale banner. You pick one, fill in its fields, add photos, choose its colours, and post it like any other post. The preview above the fields shows exactly what your followers will see.

My Dashboard (/dashboard/home): select Template under What’s new, <your name>?, or the Template tab in Create post.

  1. Select Template. The templates you can use show as small previews, each with its name and a line about it.
  2. Narrow them with the category chips at the top: All, Milestones, Litters, Health reminders, Holidays, Lost and found, Adoption, Sales, Business and General. Only categories that have a template for you show.
  3. Select a template. It opens with its fields, under Template: <name>. Choose another takes you back to the list (what you typed into this template is cleared).

Some templates are offered only to some kinds of profile. For example, Litter announcement isn’t offered to places, and Now open / hours, We’re hiring and News are for businesses, organizations and places. If no template is ready for you, you see No templates yet. Check back soon.; if they couldn’t load, Templates didn’t load. Close the post and try again.

The preview of your post sits at the top and changes as you type. Under it are the template’s fields: each has its own label (for example Headline, The day they came home, Last seen on). Required fields are marked with *; the others say (optional). Some fields start filled in, like the small label above the headline; change them if you like.

FieldWhat goes in itUp to
LabelA short line above the headline40 characters
HeadlineThe main line90 characters
SubheadingOne line under the headline140 characters
TextA few sentences500 characters
Date, TimePicked with the date or time picker; shown in each reader’s own language—
LocationA place or an area120 characters
PriceAs you’d write it40 characters
Call to actionThe words on the button, like Ask about me40 characters
ContactHow to reach you120 characters

A template uses only some of these, with its own labels. The call to action is a label on the design, not a link. #hashtags and @mentions work in the fields as in any post. A web address in a field follows the same rule as everywhere: only verified profiles can share links (see Links are for verified profiles).

Under the fields you can add a caption in Add a caption (optional), with the same styles and mentions as a text post. It shows above the design.

If a required field is empty, Post stays greyed out and the line under it says which one (Fill in “Headline”.).

If the template takes photos, Photos (up to <n>) shows under the fields. Select Add photo and pick from your media library; the × on a photo removes it. Photos are shared publicly when you post, as in any post.

Tagging pets works as in any post (Pets in this post → Tag a pet, up to 4). On a template post the pets show inside the design.

Most templates let you change their colours. Under Colours, pick one of three:

ChoiceColours used
TemplateThe template’s own colours
My brandYour brand kit’s colours. Greyed out until you set up a brand kit (Set up your brand kit under Brand to use its colours.)
CustomYour own Background, Accent and Text colours, picked with three colour pickers

With Custom, if the text would be hard to read on your background you see This text may be hard to read on that background. Text that really can’t be read is switched to black or white when you post, so your post always stays readable.

Some templates keep their own colours on purpose (the lost and found alerts use high-contrast colours so they stand out); they don’t show Colours.

If your brand kit has a logo, Show my brand logo puts it in a corner of the design.

Choose who can see it with the pill under your name, then select Post (or Schedule for later). The post shows in the feed with the design exactly as previewed, your caption above it.

Editing a template post later (Post options → Edit post) lets you change the fields, the caption, the colours, the logo, the pets and who can see it. The template itself and the photos stay. If United Pet Club later changes or retires a template, posts already made with it stay exactly as they were.
